Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of interventions performed with physical exercise on the cognition of the elderly from the systematic analysis of scientific articles. This is a systematic review of the literature and the databases used in the search were the CAPES Journal Portal, the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Medline following the requirements of the PRISMA model. The search was performed using the keywords "physical exercise" OR "physical activity" AND "cognition" AND "elderly". After refinement, the total score was 15 articles. In analyze the studies found, it was noticed that the studies published during this period present different forms of intervention and training, with emphasis on the practice of different types of exercises as a way of preventing and maintaining cognitive abilities in the elderly population. It is concluded that interventions containing the practice of physical exercise, regardless of the intervention time, have a positive effect on factors related to the cognition of the elderly.
