Abstract

Rural diversification is not just about complementing farmers' activities with new non-agricultural activities, but also creates a new basis for the local rural economy. In this context, this study aims to identify the alternatives for implementing a diversification strategy for Schaeffer Rural Property located in Tio Hugo (RS) from the available capital platform. As methodological procedures, a research with a qualitative and exploratory approach was developed, through the technique of a single case study. In addition, an in-depth interview was used, through a script of questions, with categories determined a priori that emerged from the literature review, and the answers were recorded in audio, recorded, tabulated using Microsoft® software Excel ™ and analyzed using the content analysis technique. As significant data from the study, it is clear that the main reasons for the family to diversify activities in rural areas were to expand. It is concluded that the family has a wide interaction with the community, facilitating the commercialization of the products.
