Abstract

This article analyzes the contribution of the Local Productive Arrangement (LPA) of the Nov’Arte Producers’ Association to the process of sustainable territorial development in the municipality of Novo Airão, in the state of Amazonas, Brazil. The study seeks to understand Amazonian handicrafts as an economic, social, cultural, and environmental activity, highlighting their role in generating employment, valuing traditional knowledge, and strengthening territorial identity. Furthermore, it investigates how the Local Productive Arrangement contributes to sustainable territorial development through collective organization, cooperation, governance, and public policies aimed at strengthening the handicraft sector. The research adopts a qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory approach, supported by primary data collected through a semi-structured questionnaire and an account provided by the president of the Association, in addition to a bibliographic and documentary analysis of Brazilian public policies for Local Productive Arrangements. The theoretical framework articulates the concepts of territorial development, Local Productive Arrangements, and the valorization of Amazonian sociocultural resources. The results demonstrate that Amazonian handicrafts play a strategic role in productive inclusion and in stimulating the local economy by integrating culture, tourism, the environment, and income generation. The Nov’Arte Producers’ Association represents an important mechanism for organizing artisans, facilitating commercialization, valuing cultural identity, and preserving traditional knowledge. However, challenges persist regarding access to markets, training, logistics, financing, and the expansion of public policies aimed at the sector. It is concluded that the Local Productive Arrangement of handicrafts makes a significant contribution to the sustainable territorial development of Novo Airão by promoting economic strengthening, cultural valorization, social cooperation, and the sustainable use of local resources, reinforcing the need to expand public policies and territorial governance strategies.
