Abstract

The objective of this article is to analyze the socioeconomic development of the municipalities that make up the Great Mercosur Border Mesoregion (GFM), using economic growth and socioeconomic development as a parameter, from 2005 to 2016. The methodology used was the estimation of the Centrality and Regional Disparity indicators to verify the convergence of intra and inter-regional socioeconomic development. The results indicated that municipalities with good socioeconomic performance have economic activities aimed at agriculture, industry and/or services more intensively. In its entirety, the Mesoregion is dynamic, but with a significant regional polarization. Municipalities with low socioeconomic development indicators need public policies focused on endogenous potential.
