Abstract

Socio-economic development is one of the main objectives of economic policy. For this, investments in basic infrastructure, especially those in the logistics area, are essential for fostering the growth of various activities. This work aims to identify the role of infrastructure investments as determinants in municipal indicators of human development, in cities that produce soy. The measure of investments is based on transport costs, which the smaller they are, the better the transport infrastructure, as a consequence of higher investments and which were obtained through a mathematical model of optimization by linear programming. The results of the econometric analysis, relating the municipal HDI with the transport costs, variable of interest, and other socio-economic variables allow the validation of the hypothesis that the increase in transport costs has a significant negative impact on development, showing that investment in Transport infrastructure is essential for the development of soybean municipalities.
