Abstract

This study aims at presenting systematically the literature review on innovation environments. For its most appropriate scope, a sample of 322 articles and reviews were analyzed; the results for the terms “national innovation systems”, “clusters”, “innovation networks”, “cities”, “incubators”, “accelerators”, “science parks”, “open innovation”, and “triple helix” were used as binding elements and/or typologies for innovation environments in search queries on the Scopus database. Bibliometric and sociometric analyses which contemplated co-occurrence networks, co-authorship, co-citation, and bibliographic coupling, as well as verifications of Zipf's, Lotka's and Bradford's laws were carried out. The results ratify the theme “innovation environments” as being examined through the amplitude of a general concept; besides, the same results were identified for typologies and diverse elements, with a distinction for “open innovation” and “collaborative and diversified innovation”. Moreover, it was verified a marked dispersion of where the studies are being conducted, for which it was observed a mitigation with research originated in China.
