Monitoring of sentences from the inter-american court of human rights: reflections on the effectiveness of complying with sentences imposed on Brazil

This article has the following research problem: are the mechanisms available in Brazil sufficient to verify compliance and effectiveness of the sentences handed down by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights against the Brazilian State? To answer this question, the article makes an incursion into the existing means of complying with the Court's decisions in Brazil. Through bibliographical analysis, the objective is to reflect on the mechanisms made available by both the Court and Brazilian institutions for effective compliance with sentencing decisions. Thus, the article analyzes the processes in which Brazil was condemned and how these decisions are being complied with by the year 2023. In the conclusion, it is indicated whether the decisions are in fact being complied with and whether contemporary mechanisms are sufficient or not to guarantee the effectiveness of the Court's sentences and the promotion of human rights in the country.
