The objective of this work is to identify and discuss the different rural development practices applied by family farmers, in order to be able to build a synthesis of the possible development paths expressed through these actors. For this, will be use the concept of farming styles to analyze the productive practices of family horticulturist located in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba (RMC). In summary, dependence as a loss of control (and power) by family farmers in relation to actors outside the family production unit does not mean a unidirectional or linear process. The practices of autonomy found empirically suggest different practices of departures from the values and norms embedded in the modernization and commoditization of agriculture project. Thus, the practices listed and discussed configure the room of maneuver, the universe of possibilities empirically verified, so that it is possible, finally, to affirm the existence of horticulture styles. The horticulture styles teach us that the paths of development of horticulture in RMC involves understanding the different practices that family builds based on their family logic, relationships with markets and other actors and in their relationship with nature.
