For an “epistemological rebellion”: notes on development, architecture and urban planning from the perspective of indigenous and quilombola intellectuals

Abstract

This article presents a synthesis of the views of indigenous and quilombola intellectuals on urban development and planning. For this purpose, some works by Ailton Krenak, Davi Kopenawa and Antônio Bispo dos Santos were selected. The purpose is to expand the decolonial and countercolonial discussion in the field of Urban Planning and other Applied Social Sciences, it was found that an in-depth debate about the power of these intellectuals is still absent in the area. This is a theoretical bibliographical review, revisiting some historical and conjunctural principles and issues, a debate on how the experiences of traditional communities tension the order of development by presenting other epistemes of use, occupation and production of life and nature. The methodology is qualitative, therefore, to demonstrate certain scenarios, we sought to provide examples with national events. As a result, we point to the potential of counter-hegemonic discourses in the construction of another urban planning with a community and human base, in which nature and culture are intertwined in a revisited perspective.
