The Areia Vermelha Marine State Park - AVMSP is one of the Paraiba conservation units with the most challenging aspects of management, activity monitoring and decision making. The intense tourist activity allied to the insipient amount of regulation devices has contributed to the degradation of its ecosystems, threats of interdiction and concern for who depends on the tourism product of the park. The present article seeks to theoretically discuss the importance of the integrated management present in the National Solid Waste Policy - PNRS as well as the Environmental Impact Study - EIS cited in the National Environmental Policy - NEP in the direction of best management practices for the protected natural area of Paraiba. The bibliographic review on the main themes as well as visits to the park during the last years are part of this discussion and becomes able to point out strategies for the tourist activity in Areia Vermelha. The manuscript concludes with a critique of the abyss existing between environmental legislation in force against management practices. It ends by emphasizing the need to elaborate policies capable of contributing to the improvement of environmental quality and the preservation of species.
