Geographical indication as a vector for promoting sustainability in the age of the service society

The article evaluates the legal instrument of Geographical Indication and its potential to act as a vector for promoting the dimensions of sustainability proposed by Sachs (1993) in the context of the service society. Based on the data gathered from a set of studies carried out on the subject in the areas of law and sustainability, it is possible to affirm that the Geographical Indication of Service (GSE) can be an effective instrument in promoting the five dimensions of sustainability proposed by Sachs, namely: economic, ecological, cultural, spatial and social. The study considers that as well as acting as a catalyst for sustainable development, the GSE is also an effective instrument for integrating and promoting the five dimensions of sustainability in the context of the service society. Furthermore, IGS can be a means of ensuring human rights, as it encourages the appreciation and preservation of local knowledge, practices and cultural heritage, often linked to traditional communities or those in vulnerable situations. The research method used was hypothetical-deductive, using bibliographical and documentary research techniques.
