PREVALÊNCIA DE TOXOPLASMOSE OCULAR EM UM CONSULTÓRIO OFTALMOLÓGICO DO MUNICÍPIO DE IJUÍ-RS

Abstract

A toxoplasmose é uma doença causada pelo toxoplasma gondii, um protozoário distribuído mundialmente, que acomete significativamente o homem e algumas espécies de animais. A retinocoroidite é a lesão mais frequentemente associada à toxoplasmose. Essa doença é também conhecida como toxoplasmose ocular, ou seja, é o comprometimento ocular devido às lesões e cicatrizes causadas no fundo do olho. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar a prevalência de toxoplasmose ocular em pacientes oftalmológicos, por meio de uma coleta de dados em um consultório oftalmológico do município de Ijuí/RS, no período de junho de 2005 a abril de 2007, englobando um total de 5.082 prontuários. Os dados observados foram a idade, sexo, olho afetado (direito ou esquerdo), procedência, as formas de toxoplasmose ocular e o tratamento padrão adotado. Os resultados mostraram que dos 5.082 pacientes, 71 (1,40%) possuíam toxoplasmose ocular e em relação à procedência urbana ou rural dos pacientes, praticamente não houve diferença nos resultados. As faixas etárias com a maior prevalência foram entre 20 e 30 anos e acima de 50 anos. O olho que predominou foi o direito. Pelos resultados encontrados, conclui-se que a prevalência de toxoplasmose ocular em um consultório oftalmológico
está abaixo dos limites observados no RS, mas se assemelha com a prevalência encontrada no Brasil.
