This paper aimed to explore the characteristics that a smartphone application should contain to reduce Sedentary Behavior (SB) and sociodemographic factors associated with the time of the use of the smartphone in adolescents. Four hundred and eighty-two adolescents answered the SB Questionnaire, Regular Physical Activity Questionnaire for Adolescents and weight and height measurement for the calculation of BMI (kg/m²). The logistic regression test was performed to associate the variables with the smartphone (p <0.05). Eight individuals participated in the semi-structured interview to explore what should be contained in a smartphone application to decrease SB and analyzes were done by simple coding. The mixed methodology identified that girls present a higher risk of using the smartphone (p=0.002) and having high SB (p=0.000). The interviews elucidated that a smartphone application to decrease the SB of adolescents should contain: social relation, goals, reward, messages, updates and it can have a game format.
