Difficulties and achievements of educationarea servers in Brazil and Portugal

Abstract

The research addresses the precariousness and devaluation of teaching work in Federal Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and in public basic education schools in Brazil and Portugal, focusing on the protests that arose from the dissatisfaction of education employees. The study analyzes how the lack of minimum working conditions, such as low wages, overload, excessive bureaucracy and scarcity of resources, impacts the mental health of educators and compromises the quality of teaching. The main objective is to demonstrate the difficulties faced by teachers and how these conditions affect motivation and professional performance. The methodology used is bibliographical research, based on articles, reports and studies on the topic, offering a diagnosis of the precariousness of teaching and reinforcing the urgent need for public policies that value educators and improve their working conditions. After the research, it was found that both Brazil and Portugal face many challenges. Overcoming these obstacles will only be possible through mobilizations and struggles, as even governments historically aligned with the defense of workers' rights have shown little willingness to negotiate effectively for professional recognition. It is concluded that the unity and resistance of public servants are essential to ensure quality education in both countries, pushing governments to implement public policies that truly acknowledge and value education professionals, as such recognition is unlikely to come willingly.
