Abstract

Introduction: Breast Cancer is the most frequent neoplasm and the major cause of cancer death in women worldwide. Objective: to compare breast cancer mortality rates in the municipality Santo Ângelo, with data from Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul and Southern Region. Methods: its study based on secondary data collected from the Department of Informatics of the Sistema Único de Saúde. Results: there is an increased numbers of deaths from the age of 20 years, reaching a peak in the age range of 50-59 years. Comparing the rates adjusted for age of Santo Ângelo with Brazil and the South Region, a statistically significant difference observed. Conclusion: we conclude that in Santo Ângelo, the mortality rate due to breast cancer is higher than in Brazil and the Southern Region.
