A pesquisa em educação popular pressupõe a construção doconhecimento pelas relações dialógicas entre os grupos sociais.
A pesquisa-ação em educação popular geralmente implica alto grau de envolvimento emocional do pesquisador. A experimentação confere estatuto científico à pesquisa-ação. A
construção participativa do conhecimento distingue a pesquisa-
ação entre as atividades científicas. A participação dos sujeitos
na pesquisa opera a substituição dos ideais de explicação e controle pelos de compreensão, significado e ação, aproximando-
se do paradigma interpretativo ou hermenêutico.
